Napa Valley Swim Team tryouts for Pre-Olympic program May 6

The Napa Valley Swim Team is having tryouts for its Pre-Olympic program, which offers beginning swim instruction May 6, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at the Napa Valley College pool.

Swimmers must be prepared to get into the water.

There are three-week sessions offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. Session dates are:

• May 16-June 2.

• June 6-22

• June 27-July 13.

• July 18-Aug. 3.

Requirements are that the child must be deep-water safe. There is a registration fee of $10 and the cost per session, which is a total of nine lessons, is $90. Payment is due at the time of registration, via check; no credit cards.

The Napa Valley Swim Team has served the Napa Valley community for over 50 years with a mission to help each individual athlete achieve his or her full potential as a swimmer and as a person in a spirited and fun atmosphere. Harvest Middle School Golf Tournament May 7

The third annual Harvest Middle School Golf Tournament, presented by the school’s parent faculty club, is Saturday, May 7 at Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park. Check-in is 12 p.m. and the tournament starts at 1 p.m.

Money raised at this event will be used to help Harvest teachers provide material and curriculum for the classroom.

The tournament fee is $75 per golfer (pre-registration is recommended). The day of event includes green fees, cart, three-par poker contest, dinner/drinks, and a chance for one golfer to attempt a 15-foot putt for $1K, team prizes and more.

Organizers are also looking for sponsors for the event. Sponsors will have a tee sign for $125. The tournament will also include a raffle.

Napa Valley Jets Football & Cheer Club fund-raiser May 7

The Napa Valley Jets Youth Football & Cheer Club is hosting a dinner-dance equipment fund-raiser Saturday, May 7, at the American Legion Hall, 1240 Pearl St. Jets sign-ups will be available earlier in the day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Doors open for a no-host bar supporting the VFW at 4 p.m. A tri-tip dinner will be served at 5 p.m., accompanied with DJ music by Frankie Ruiz and live music provided by Soul Projects from 6:30 to 10 p.m. There is also a silent auction and raffle.

Golf clinics at Chardonnay Golf Club start May 9

Golf Clinics 1-2-3 with Jessica Reese Quayle, a former LPGA Tour player, are being offered this spring and summer at the Chardonnay Golf Club.

Level 1, adult clinics are offered on Mondays at 11 a.m., May 9 through June 13, and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., May 11 through June 15.

level 2, adult clinics are offered on Mondays at 12:30 p.m., May 9 through June 13.

Level 3 will start in July.

Level 1 is a core level, focusing on the fundamentals of the six-main topics: putting, chipping, pitching, iron play and hybrids, fairway woods and divers, and sand traps. Level 2 is an intermediate level and focuses on working the ball, uneven lies, hitting the ball low and high, bad lies, flop shots, and other specialty shots around the green, and reading greens (some classes will be on the course). Level 3 is an advanced level and focuses on course management, tracking shots, how to practice, video analysis, trouble holes, sports psychology, routines, and custom club fitting (the majority of classes will be held on the course).

The cost is $35 per one-hour clinic and $180 for all six clinics. There’s a limit of six players per clinic.

American Legion baseball tryouts May 13

Open tryouts for the American Canyon/Vallejo American Legion 15-U baseball team will be Friday, May 13, at 5 p.m. at the American Canyon High School varsity diamond. Players must be born on or after July 31, 1995. The cost is $300.

Pure Potential Academy Soccer Camps start June 13

Pure Potential Academy Soccer Camps is taking enrollment for the 2011 season. Pure Potential Academy Soccer Camps, directed by Abe Torres, develops accuracy and consistency in soccer fundamentals, helping players to develop their body balance, ball approach and visual direction.

The training camps will be held June 13-17, June 20-24, July 11-15, July 18-22 and July 25-29, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pure Potential Academy Soccer Camps will be held at West Park Elementary School. The cost is $150 per player for each week; this includes a training ball and a camp T- shirt.

Tee Off Fore Kids Golf Invitational June 24

The Active 20-30 of Napa’s third annual Tee Off Fore Kids Golf Invitational is Friday, June 24 at Eagle Vines Vineyards and Golf Club. There is a 12 p.m. check-in and lunch, with the golf, a scramble format and shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. There is a dinner and reception at 6 p.m. All proceeds from this event will benefit Active 20/30 of Napa Children’s Fund.

The cost is $120 before June 1; dinner only is $35. Checks are to be made payable to Active 20/30 Children’s Charitable Fund.

Babe Ruth needs Senior Division players

Napa Babe Ruth has roster spots available on its Senior Division team.

Players must have been born on or after Jan. 1, 1992 and be at least 16 years old by May 1, 2011.

Practice will start the week of April 25, and the season will run from the end of the high school baseball season though the July 4 weekend.
